East Mersea Hall

Combining tranquil woodland, a walled garden, and scenic grounds, East Mersea Hall is the perfect location for your Essex Wedding

Hey! I’m Sylvie!

I photograph weddings in a relaxed, documentary style capturing moments as they happen throughout your wedding day, but add just a touch of editorial photography where it naturally fits.

East Mersea Hall is one of my favourite wedding venues and I am over the moon to be a recommended wedding photographer for this venue. There are so many options for weddings, whether you’d like to exchange vows within the main building, the beautiful walled garden or even in the woodlands. The scenic surroundings are perfect for documentary photography as there’s plenty of space to photograph the action of your wedding day.

5 Favourite Portrait Locations

There are so many great locations for photos on your wedding day, so I’ve selected the 5 best couple photo locations that my clients love, to help you with ideas for your big day.

A couple in formal attire sitting in a rowboat on a pond with lily pads, surrounded by lush green trees and a large white house with a tower in the background, under a clear blue sky.
  1. The Lake

This gorgeous lake spot is weather dependent, but looks stunning on a rainy day as well as in sunshine. It looks best in the late afternoon or just before sunset. My advice would be to head to this location just before your wedding meal in the autumn and winter months, and after your wedding breakfast or in-between courses during those long and mild summer evenings .

2. The swing

The double-swing is very popular with all my clients for couple photos. The swing is overlooking the water and offers shade on hot summer weddings and in autumn the area is covered in beautifully coloured leaves, making it a very atmospheric setting. What is not to love about it?

3. The Driveway

I love stopping here for a few quick photos on the driveway at East Mersea Hall. It feels like stepping into its own little magical world, with mature trees lining the path and lanterns shimmering with warm light. The photos are especially stunning during blue hour in the summer months, or at any time of day throughout the darker autumn and winter months.

Four women, with three holding bouquets of flowers and one holding a drink, standing in front of a wooden wall, celebrating at a wedding.

4. The Grounds

I actually have to include the entire landscaped grounds of this wedding venue as a photo opportunity. There are so many almost-hidden little gems tucked away throughout the venue, each creating the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos — like this moment of my bride and her bridesmaids standing in front of this beautiful black gate. It works beautifully as a black-and-white image.

A newlywed couple on the beach, with the man lifting the woman in his arms, both smiling. The woman wears a white wedding dress, holding a bouquet of flowers. The beach has driftwood and wooden posts, with water and a tree-covered hill in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

5. The Beach

Last but not least, let’s talk about the beach…THIS beach is not only gorgeous but also unique, as I can’t think of any other wedding venue in Essex that has a wonderful sandy beach literally on its doorstep. So this is for the couples who love making the most of the golden hour, who are happy to leave the wedding party behind for half an hour and drive down the road with me for a couple of minutes to get there.

Advice: bring comfortable shoes as it is a 5-10 minutes walk from the car park, but I think it is so worth it!

“You have been so attentive and approachable from start to finish, and we wouldn't have felt comfortable with anyone else on our day. Your service has been exceptional, and we can't recommend you highly enough to anyone needing a photographer. Thank you so much for everything, your work has pride of place up on our wall, and we will never forget what you did for us. The framers we took your photo to when it was blown up said they hadn't seen a photo with such good composition and quality at that size of print, so the experts agree with us.”
